Netherlands

  • Sources: The Dutch dataset is compiled from official government sources and enriched with additional datasets.
  • Update frequency: Monthly.
  • Postcodes: four digits and two letters, such as 5617 AC, accepted in upper or lower case, with or without the space. The Netherlands has about 470,000 postcodes, about 9,000 of them for PO boxes.

Finding an address

  • A postcode and house number identify a Dutch address, so autocomplete needs no street or settlement. It needs the full postcode: four digits alone are not enough.
  • A PO box postcode identifies its address on its own, without a house number.
  • A postcode usually covers one street, but not always: 1097 DN covers both Julianaplein and Wibautstraat. A long street has several postcodes.

House numbers

  • streetNumber is a number. A letter or number after it is the premise, such as A in 12A. You can also send both together in streetNumberAndPremise, such as 12A or 12 A.
  • Some house numbers exist only with a premise. A request without one returns a 400 that lists the available premises.
  • When you split an address line yourself, a number can belong to the street name:
    • Plein 40-45 5 in Hilvarenbeek: Plein 40-45 is the street and 5 the house number.
    • Galjoen 22 2 in Lelystad: Galjoen 22 is the street and 2 the house number. Send 2 as the streetNumber: in streetNumberAndPremise, 22 2 is read as house number 22 with premise 2.

Address fields

  • street holds the official name, such as Burgemeester Le Fèvre de Montignylaan. streetNEN5825 holds its official short form of at most 24 characters, as defined in the NEN 5825 standard: Burg L F de Montignyln. It is present only for a street that has a short form, which every name longer than 24 characters does.
  • surfaceArea: the usable floor area of the address in m², such as 210.
  • constructionYear: the original year of construction of the building. It does not change when the building is renovated or extended.
  • purposes: whether the address is residential or has other purposes.
  • With the Special Package:
    • plotSize: the area in m² of the cadastral parcel the address lies on, including surroundings such as a garden, such as 650.

    • BAGType: whether the address is a residence object (vbo), a berth (lig) or a pitch (sta).
