Belgium

  • Sources: The Belgian dataset is compiled from official sources.
  • Update frequency: Monthly.
  • Postcodes: four digits, such as 1000 for Brussels.

Finding an address

  • A postcode and house number don't identify a Belgian address. Autocomplete needs the postcode and street.
  • An apartment or unit within a building has a box number: box holds it without its prefix. Send it with or without one: bus b008, bte b008 and b008 all find the same unit. Infer reads it from a line such as 1000 16 bus A.

Languages

Belgium has three official languages, and the API returns names in the language of the region: Dutch in Flanders, French in Wallonia and German in the German-speaking municipalities. In bilingual Brussels the response follows the language of the street name you sent.

  • Every name also comes in the other languages. Boulevard de Dixmude in Brussels is Diksmuidelaan in the Dutch translation, and boxPrefix follows the language: bus in Dutch, bte in French and box otherwise.
  • Kneippweg 13 in Eupen is German: its province is Lüttich and its region Wallonie.
  • Infer accepts a language parameter (nl, fr or de) to choose the language of its suggestions.

Address fields

  • region: the gewest or région.
  • province: the provincie or province. Brussels-Capital has no province, so it holds the region name.
  • municipality: the gemeente or commune.
  • settlement: the deelgemeente (section) within the municipality, or the municipality itself where it has none.
  • streetNumber is a number; a letter after it is the premise, such as A.
