Austria

  • Sources: The Austrian dataset is compiled from official sources.
  • Update frequency: Monthly.
  • Postcodes: four digits, such as 1100 for Favoriten in Vienna. One postcode can span several municipalities: 9020 covers Klagenfurt, Magdalensberg and Maria Saal.

Finding an address

  • A postcode and house number don't identify an Austrian address. Autocomplete needs the postcode, settlement and street, or an addressId.
  • Several addresses can share one house number, such as separate buildings on one site. The API then returns a 400 that lists their addressId values; pick one by its location or buildingName and repeat the request with that addressId. Börseplatz 1/1 in Vienna has two, 33 metres apart; Sankt-Peter-Straße 25 in Linz has 196.

House numbers

  • streetNumber is text, returned as the source writes it: 1, a range such as 6-8 in Dorotheergasse 6-8 (one house number), or a letter such as A for Gasometer A in Simmering.
  • premise is the part after the slash: 2 in 16/2. Börseplatz 1 exists only as 1/1, 1/2 and 1/3, so a request without a premise returns a 400 that lists them.
  • Addresses carry their addressId and, where the source names the building (Wohnhaus, Hauptgebäude, Bau 1), a buildingName.

Address fields

  • state: the Bundesland.
  • district: the politischer Bezirk. For a statutory city it is the city itself, such as Stadt Linz.
  • municipality: the Gemeinde.
  • settlement: the Ortschaft. In Vienna it is the district (Gemeindebezirk), such as Favoriten. Some names are abbreviated as in the source, such as St.Veiter Vorstadt; matching ignores spaces and punctuation, so St. Veiter Vorstadt finds it.
