Germany

  • Sources: The German dataset is compiled from official sources.
  • Update frequency: Monthly.
  • Postcodes: five digits, such as 86975 for Bernbeuren. Treat them as text: postcodes in the east start with a zero, such as 01067 in Dresden.

Finding an address

  • A postcode and house number don't identify a German address. Autocomplete needs the postcode, settlement and street; Infer resolves a single line of text, including a partial postcode, while the user types.
  • Names match regardless of case, accents, spaces and punctuation, so Schwabenstrasse finds Schwabenstraße.

House numbers

  • streetNumber is a number. The letter or sub-number after it is the premise: a in 3a, 1 in 12/1. You can also send both together in streetNumberAndPremise, such as 15a.
  • Some house numbers exist only with a premise. Freiberger Platz 1 in Dresden is only 1a, so a request without a premise returns a 400 that lists the available premises.

Address fields

  • state: the Bundesland, such as Bayern.
  • district: the Landkreis, such as Landkreis Weilheim-Schongau. It is absent for a kreisfreie Stadt and for the city-states Berlin, Hamburg and Bremen.
  • municipality and settlement: both hold the Gemeinde. Suggest also lists the Ortsteile within a postcode.
